Every so often, out of the blue, someone comes up with a really great idea. Something that changes EVERYTHING. All the preconcieved ideas, notions, suggestions, thoughts in the darkness of a good night's sleep, some thing so wise and potent overheard in your favorite bar over strong drink; poof. Just like that! Gone. Slipped off the hook you always counted on as a reality check, like a doctors' pronunciation:"Looks good from down here!" EEWW. But now it's obvious to all but the most bullheaded. America has a non white president.
I don't like to refer to him as black. Not out of a case of denial so strong it makes you want to turn to strong spirits. It's simply a case of reality. He's bi-racial. His mother was as white as can be. A child of middle America with a sense of adventure that drove her to far away places with strange sounding names and a black husband.
Together, they had a child, born on the beautiful island in Hawaii that so awed Americans, they stole it and kicked out the actual ruler, an real and noble queen. After all. sugar was king at that time and they didn't need it all, did they? The islands became a state by fiat and the queen became a prisoner in her own home.
How strange are the ways of the world. How lucky this country is to have found such a brainy, calm, humorous voice to lead us. Hopefully, we can do something to deserve such a leader.
Do some good for someone. A neighbor, a family member, your church, your co-worker. Kindness is contagious. Who knows how far your little ripple of kindness might spread.
